Russia must gain a worthy position on the world nuclear power market and may hope for ¼ of it, President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev said in Sarov on July 22.

«The number of countries wishing to increase the share of nuclear energy in their national energy balances is growing. The market of high-tech products and services is keeping pace. It is obvious that Russia must gain a worthy position on this market, a place corresponding to its capacities,» Medvedev said during a meeting of the Committee on Modernization and Technological Development of Economy.

Experts say that Russian companies have all necessary technologies and capacities for offering the whole nuclear energy cycle — from uranium mining to maintenance and decommissioning of NPPs — and may hope for, at least, ¼ of the global market.

«This is a very serious position,» Medvedev said. He said that he always pointed out Russia’s leadership on the nuclear energy market while meeting with his foreign colleagues and the latter agreed with him.
