From April 14 to 21, 2023, a delegation of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority (BAERA), led by Mr. Ziaul Hasan, Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Science and Technology of Bangladesh, paid a working visit to JSC “VO “Safety”.

On April 17, the delegation was received by Mr. Alexander Trembitsky, Chairman of Rostechnadzor. Mr. Md. Muzammel Haque, Chairman of BAERA, and Mr. Satyajit Ghose, Project Director of Nuclear Regulatory Infrastructure Development also participated in the event. The parties discussed pressing matters of safety regulation in the Rooppur NPP construction.

Requirements for a physical protection system of the fresh nuclear fuel storage facility and aspects of safety regulation in nuclear fuel transport were reviewed in detail in connection with the upcoming delivery of fresh nuclear fuel to the Rooppur NPP site this fall. The delegation members also visited the Rostechnadzor’s Center for Information and Analysis to become acquainted with its work.

In the course of the meetings held in the headquarters of JSC “VO “Safety” during the week, the representatives of the Bangladeshi delegation and JSC “VO “Safety” discussed issues on safety regulation in the Rooppur NPP construction, reviewing of documents submitted by the licensee to obtain licenses of classes B, D and E, as well as the possibility of implementing the new areas of cooperation:

– Assistance in licensing personnel of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission (BAEC);

– Assistance in the development of BAERA personnel;

– Assistance in establishing the Emergency Communication Center within BAERA.

A number of working meetings were attended by Mr. Kamrul Ahsan, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.

Minutes of the meeting were finally signed between JSC “VO “Safety” and the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority.

The General Framework Contract between JSC “VO “Safety” and BAERA was signed on November 18, 2016, according to which consulting and engineering services are provided in the field of regulation of nuclear and radiation safety within the framework of the Rooppur NPP construction.
