The specialists of the Penza Branch of JSC “VO “Safety” conducted an inspection at JSC Tyazhmash (Syzran) and checked the quality of manufactured components of the core catcher for El Dabaa NPP Unit 1, and namely: Casing, Filler and Maintenance Platform.  The inspection confirmed the appropriate quality and operability of items.

It should be recalled that the core catcher (CC) is intended to enhance the safety of the power unit in case of a severe accident accompanied with the destruction of the reactor pressure vessel. The core catcher is capable of confining liquid and solid fragments of the core and reactor structural materials for a long time, thus ensuring that the nuclear power plant remains safe for the public and the environment.
