Director General of JSC “VO “Safety” Vladimir Tikhonov made a working visit to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh in an official delegation headed by Chairman of the Federal Environmental, Industrial and Nuclear Supervision Service of Russia (Rostechnadzor) Aleksey Aleshin.

During the visit, Vladimir Tikhonov participated in a regular session of the Joint Coordinating Committee (JСС) of Russia and Bangladesh on the construction of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant. He had a number of meetings with representatives of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Regulatory Authority (BAERA) to discuss business issues. The program of the visit also comprised a trip to the Rooppur NPP site located in the Pabna district in 160 km from Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, to follow the current state of the construction and assembly activities.

It would be appropriate to recall that the General Framework Contract between technical support organization of Rostechnadzor JSC “VO “Safety” and BAERA for rendering services under the scope of the Rooppur NPP construction project was signed on November 18, 2016.

As Vladimir Tikhonov said, under the scope of the contract JSC VO “Safety” renders to the Bangladesh party engineering services in the area of nuclear and radiation safety regulation to support main regulatory processes of BAERA during siting, design, manufacturing and construction of the Rooppur NPP. “For the period of 2019 to 2021 we are planning to work in the following two areas: continuation of rendering technical support to BAERA and development of state safety regulatory infrastructure of Bangladesh as well as capacity building of the regulatory authority”, he added.
