Penza Branch representatives of JSC \u201cVO \u201cSafety\u201d held an acceptance inspection at TYAZHMASH manufacturing plant in relation to the cantilever truss assembled with the bottom plate as well as the water supply valve of the core catcher. Those are the last components of the core catcher for Unit 1 of the El Dabaa NPP (ARE).<\/p>\n

A core catcher is an important safety component of nuclear power plants. In case of a severe accident with the core failure and reactor vessel melt-through, it will ensure protection of people and environment by retaining fragments of corium within the containment.<\/p>\n

In late March three main components of the core catcher were delivered to the site of the El Dabaa NPP: casing, filler and maintenance platform.<\/p>\n

In total, TYAZHMASH plant will produce four core catchers for the El Dabaa NPP.<\/p>\n
