{"id":11927,"date":"2016-07-18T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2016-07-18T09:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vo.afonico-test.ru\/novosti-otrasli\/grid-connection-for-second-fangchenggang-unit\/"},"modified":"2016-07-18T12:00:00","modified_gmt":"2016-07-18T09:00:00","slug":"grid-connection-for-second-fangchenggang-unit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vosafety.ru\/en\/novosti-otrasli\/grid-connection-for-second-fangchenggang-unit\/","title":{"rendered":"Grid connection for second Fangchenggang unit"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><strong>Unit 2\u00a0of the Fangchenggang nuclear power plant in China\u2019s Guangxi province started supplying electricity to the grid on 15\u00a0July, China General Nuclear (CGN) announced the following day.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Fangchenggang is located near Hongsha village in the Guangxi Autonomous Region in western China, about 45\u00a0kilometres from the border with Vietnam. A total of six large pressurized water reactors are planned to operate there. Units 1\u00a0and 2\u00a0are both CPR-1000s, units 3\u00a0and 4\u00a0will feature Hualong One reactors, and units 5\u00a0and 6\u00a0are to be AP1000s.<\/p>\n<p>Construction of the first two units at the Fangchenggang plant began in July and December 2010, respectively. Unit 1\u00a0was connected to the grid last October and entered commercial operation on 1\u00a0January. The loading of fuel assemblies into the core of unit 2\u00a0was completed on 24\u00a0May and the reactor achieved first criticality on 28\u00a0June.<\/p>\n<p>CGN said Fangchenggang 2\u00a0was connected to the grid at 1.30am on 15\u00a0July. The unit will now undergo a load test run and other relevant testing before entering full-power demonstration operation. It is scheduled to enter commercial operation by the end of this year.<\/p>\n<p>According to CGN, the first two Fangchenggang units will supply some 15\u00a0billion kilowatt-hours of \u201csafe, clean, economical power\u201d annually to the Beibu Gulf Economic Zone. This, it says, will avoid the use of 4.82\u00a0million tonnes of coal and cut carbon dioxide emissions by almost 12\u00a0million tonnes.<\/p>\n<p>Phase I of the Fangchenggang plant\u00a0\u2014 units 1\u00a0and 2\u00a0\u2014 has been built with a localization rate of more than 80%, CGN said.<\/p>\n<p>Construction of Fangchenggang 3\u00a0began in December 2015, while construction of unit 4\u00a0is scheduled to begin later this year. These two units are expected to start up in 2019\u00a0and 2020, respectively.<\/p>\n<p>The plant is 39% owned by Guangxi Investment Group and 61% owned by CGN.<\/p>\n<p>With the grid connection of Fangchenggang 2, CGN now has 17\u00a0reactors in operation with a combined generating capacity of 18.17\u00a0GWe and a further eight units currently under construction.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Unit 2\u00a0of the Fangchenggang nuclear power plant in China\u2019s Guangxi province started supplying electricity to the grid on 15\u00a0July, China General Nuclear (CGN) announced the following day.
