{"id":11789,"date":"2014-03-11T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2014-03-11T09:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vo.afonico-test.ru\/novosti-otrasli\/first-haiyang-ap1000-takes-shape\/"},"modified":"2014-03-11T12:00:00","modified_gmt":"2014-03-11T09:00:00","slug":"first-haiyang-ap1000-takes-shape","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/vosafety.ru\/en\/novosti-otrasli\/first-haiyang-ap1000-takes-shape\/","title":{"rendered":"First Haiyang AP1000 takes shape"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4><strong>The final module\u00a0\u2014 the containment water tank\u00a0\u2014 has been installed at the first of two AP1000\u00a0units under construction at Haiyang in China\u2019s Shandong province.<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>The operation to lift the 285-tonne containment cooling tank\u00a0\u2014 with an outer diameter of almost 26\u00a0metres, an inner diameter of 10.6\u00a0metres and a height of just over 10\u00a0metres\u00a0\u2014 took about 2\u00a0hours and 30\u00a0minutes on the morning of 9\u00a0March.<\/p>\n<p>The large round component is a major part of the AP1000\u2019s safety systems. It will hold some 3000\u00a0cubic metres of water ready to flow down to evaporate from the surface of the containment vessel in any emergency situation where the reactor system may be overheating. This evaporation would help to cool the overall system. The water could also be directed to top up the used fuel pool, while the tank itself can be refilled from water stored elsewhere on site.<\/p>\n<p>In September 2007, Westinghouse and its partners the Shaw Group received authorization to construct four AP1000\u00a0units China: two at Sanmen in Zhejiang province and two more at Haiyang in Shandong province.<\/p>\n<p>The construction of the Haiyang AP1000s is being managed by Shandong Nuclear Power Company, in collaboration with State Nuclear Power Technology Corp (SNPTC) and China Nuclear Energy Construction Corp. SNPTC has a major role in the transfer of knowledge and technology from the plant supplier, Westinghouse.<\/p>\n<p>Sanmen unit 1\u00a0is expected to be the first AP1000\u00a0to begin operating. The unit is scheduled to begin generating electricity in 2014. Haiyang 1\u00a0is also slated for commercial operation by the end of this year. All four Chinese AP1000s are scheduled to be in operation by 2016. Third and fourth units are planned at both Sanmen and Haiyang.<\/p>\n<p>Four AP1000s are also currently under construction in the USA: Vogtle 3\u00a0and its sister unit Vogtle 4\u00a0in Georgia, and Summer units 2\u00a0and 3\u00a0in South Carolina.
