Presently, the parties are coordinating specific provisions of the agreement. \u201cI think that we will meet the deadlines and in Oct the agreement will be signed,\u201d Grusha said.<\/p>\n
The preliminary environmental impact assessment of Byelorussian NPP project will be discussed at public hearings Oct 9. All concerned people may take part in the discussion<\/p>\n
On May 28\u00a02009\u00a0the governments of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus signed an agreement for cooperation in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy.<\/em><\/p>\n The agreement was signed by Deputy Director General for Nuclear Power Complex of Rosatom State Nuclear Energy Corporation Alexander Lokshin and Minister of Energy of Belarus Alexander Ozerets.<\/em><\/p>\n This document has laid a legal basis for Russian-Byelorussian cooperation in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy: engineering, construction and operation of nuclear power plants, supply of nuclear fuel, nuclear and radiation safety, joint research and development projects, personnel training. <\/em><\/p>\n The next step should be the signing of an agreement for construction of a nuclear power plant in Belarus.<\/em><\/p>\n It will be a plant of Russian design (St.Petersburg Atomenergoproekt\u2019s NPP-2006\u00a0project). The general contractor of the project is Atomstroyexport CJSC. The Russian company will carry out the construction on a turn-key basis.<\/em><\/p>\n Belarus is planning to build a 2,400MW NPP-2006. The 1st unit is supposed to be launched in 2016, the 2nd one\u00a0\u2014 in 2018.
